Lyles Station Historic School and Museum tells the true but unfamiliar story that began over 150 years ago. This thriving Indiana community was built by free African Americans who became successful land-owners and farmers before the Civil War. The story of Lyles Station is featured in The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC. Here in Princeton, Indiana, the Lyles Station Historic School and Museum is open for visitors to experience this community’s 19th century garden, log cabin, and historical farming and African-American pioneer artifacts. Every October, Lyles Station is home to a family-oriented fall festival and corn maze featuring hayrides, a pumpkin patch and family activities. Funds raised from this annual public event support the efforts of Lyles Station Historic School and Museum to present this Pioneer African American experience to all people today.
