SUMMARY:Hoosier Lifelines: Environmental and Social Change Along the Monon\, 1847-2020
DESCRIPTION:The Carnegie Center for Art and History is pleased to host the exhibition Hoosier Lifelines: Environmental and Social Change Along the Monon\, 1847-2020\, an artistic and historical exploration of Indiana’s changing environment along the remains of the historic Monon Railroad\, from the Ohio River’s banks to Lake Michigan’s dunes. \nThe Monon’s centrality to Indiana’s social and economic life was captured by the company’s mid-twentieth century nickname: the “Hoosier Lifeline.” Today\, its trains went and its tracks largely deserted\, the Monon’s path serves as the foundation on which to build a new understanding of the interplay of landscapes\, ecosystems\, and communities across time and space. At a time when Hoosiers face growing risks from environmental change\, public health threats\, and economic turmoil\, we return to Indiana’s Lifeline to ask: \nWhat becomes of the future we once imagined for ourselves?\nWhat replaces the network of resources\, communities\, and workers that once brought our state together?\nWhat will sustain those communities in a time of diminishing resources and accelerating environmental change? \nMore than a reflection on one rail line\, Hoosier Lifelines’ assembled photographs\, artifacts\, and historical narratives illuminate the long history of what scientists now call the Anthropocene—the age of humans—in Indiana. By bringing the artistic and historical study to bear on the network of industry\, commerce\, agriculture\, and energy that Hoosiers built during the line’s 100+ years of service\, the exhibition transports visitors to a new appreciation of a familiar place.

SUMMARY:New Albany Wicked Walk Friday FRIGHTS & LIGHTS Tour!
DESCRIPTION:FRIGHTS & LIGHTS TOUR!!! Bundle up and join us we take a winter stroll through the haunted\, violent\, and tragic past events of New Albany\, IN set to the warm glow of the downtown holiday lights! \nWalking Tours of the Locations of Strange & Dreadful Happenings from the rich history of downtown New Albany\, Indiana! \nThis tour is based on actual documented historical events. During the tour\, we will visit the locations and the guide will share information and stories about the site. This is not a “haunted house” type tour (NO jump scares) but hopefully\, the chilling\, graphic\, and shocking details from history will do the trick! \nThis tour will mainly stay in the area of downtown New Albany with a few outliers. We visit the sites where events actually occurred\, are said to have occurred\, or in some instances\, have a direct connection to the event. Some examples of events are murders\, tragic accidents\, crimes\, ghostly hauntings\, and other supernatural goings-on! As of yet\, we will NOT be entering any premises. \nWe encourage you to do some spirit/ghost hunting on the tour\, so please bring along some tools of the trade: cameras\, EMF readers\, EVP recorders\, etc. Most of this can be done from a cell phone! See our website for recommendations! \nMeet us at the S.E. corner of Market St. and Bank St. (Farmer’s Market Location) at least 10 minutes before the start of the event. \nCOVID-19 NOTICE: We WILL be adhering to the advice of state medical officials and REQUIRE that every participant in the tour wear a mask/face covering that covers the nose and mouth when the group is in close proximity\, usually when a story is being told. We will also try our best to adhere to distancing guidelines. If you have any issues with this policy\, we ask that you DO NOT attend the tour as you will not be able to participate if you do not follow these guidelines.
