Spring is in the air and what better way to celebrate the new season than to experience a weekend getaway in "Indiana's River Country." Bordered by the Wabash River to the west and the Falls Cities (Jeffersonville, Clarksville, and New Albany) to the east, "Indiana's River Country" offers a rich heritage, beautiful scenery, and charming small towns. A weekend stay at one of the many cozy Bed and Breakfasts will allow you to experience all that southern Indiana has to offer.

County Inn Bed and Breakfast

Enjoy country charm just minutes from the big city at the 1877 House County Inn Bed and Breakfast in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Located in the "Sunnyside of Louisville," the 1877 House features antique furnishing, fireplaces, private baths, and an outside hot tub. A guest cottage with a Jacuzzi tub also is available. Relax in the gazebo or on the wide front porch. For further relaxation, make an appointment with the massage therapist. Dig into a hearty country breakfast before you embark on local sightseeing. Popular nearby attractions include the Howard Steamboat Museum, a historic house museum that features objects from the steamboat era, Schimpf's Confectionary, an old-time candy shop and soda fountain, and the Falls of the Ohio State Park.

The Honeymoon Mansion

The Honeymoon Mansion Bed and Breakfast and Wedding Chapel is located in another "Sunnyside" city, New Albany. This ornately decorated Victorian mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and sits on New Albany's "Mansion Row" Historic District. Each guest room is named after a famous person living in 1850, the year the house was built. Outstanding features such as marble columns, stained glass, hand-carved canopy beds, fireplaces, and marble Jacuzzi tubs contribute to the romantic feel of the inn.

Kintner House and the Hummingbird

About 20 miles to the west lies Corydon, Indiana's first state capitol. This historic community features two charming B & B's. The Kintner House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been featured on two 1991 Hallmark trademarked Christmas cards. It boasts fifteen rooms, each with private baths. Just two blocks away from the Kintner House is the Hummingbird Bed and Breakfast. This Victorian house, circa 1885, features four guest rooms, each with its own private bath. Rockport Inn

Further down river in downtown Rockport is the Rockport Inn. The home was built around 1857 as a private residence. Over the years it has been a boarding house and hotel. Today, guests can enjoy a romantic getaway and fine meal in the dining room which is open to the public.

Beechwood Country Inn

Nestled in the rolling hills of Southern Indiana lies the Beechwood Country Inn. This1915 mansion. Located in French Lick, features six antique-filled guest rooms with private baths. Guests will enjoy breakfast in the dining room, which is also open to the public for lunch and dinner, Tuesday - Sunday. The French Lick Winery and Coffee Company is just around the corner. Other area attractions include the Indiana Railway Museum, antique shops in French Lick, and the West Baden Springs Dome. This former hotel, known as the "Eighth Wonder of the World," is open for guided tours.

Logs End Farm Bed and Breakfast

For those who prefer a more rustic experience, the Logs End Farm Bed and Breakfast in Petersburg is the perfect choice. This B and B gets its name from its construction which features two vintage 1853 log cabins joined by a newly built, traditional home. Four guest rooms are located in the new edition and each includes its own private bath with claw foot tub. Guests will enjoy a hearty farm breakfast in the dining room which is situated in one of the old log cabins. The fireplace is perfect for cozy dining on chilly mornings. The Logs End Farm is located on a working farm that grows grain, hay, and livestock and guests can have a firsthand view of country life during their stay.

Starkey Inn Bed and Breakfast

For those looking for a B & B experience in a city setting, the Starkey Inn Bed and Breakfast in Evansville is the perfect choice. A local attorney, as a way to please his homesick wife, built this southern style house in 1850. Guests can chose from rooms featuring four-poster beds, private baths with garden tubs, and antique furniture. Breakfast can be served in the dining room or in bed for those who prefer extra pampering. The Starkey Inn is located in Evansville's Historic Riverside district. The Reitz Home Museum is within walking distance and gives visitors a glimpse of life in the late 1800s.
